It is really only necessary to "stay ahead" of the pain with the pill for the first few days. After that, you can go more to taking them when you feel like you need them.

How has it been so far?

It will get better. It doesn't take all that long before you will be able to jog.

I honestly don't know what the deal is with the "no pillow under the knee" thing that is all the rage. I definitely used a pillow during sleep and never had an issue. PT never said not to use one. Maybe the times have changed and they believe it hinders in some way. I never saw any issues from it though.

I think a sleeve can really help sometimes. It doesn't eliminate all the swelling, but it does keep it to a minimum and keeps your knee warm during exercise... which some people find helpful when it comes to range of motion.

It sounds like you are doing great! I wouldn't change much if it is working for you now.

I never did use a brace of any kind for sports after I had the surgery. My doctor was like yours... he pretty much said the reason I was having it fixed in the first place was to correct the problem and not have to wear any kind of brace.

It varies. I never did get 100% of the flexion back, but I stopped doing those exercises a little bit earlier than I should have. I don't have any problems from it, I just can't quite bend it as far as the normal one. You should have most of your flexion back within the first few months. Some people get it back in a few weeks.

You are welcome! I'm glad people are still getting some use out of something I started so long ago.

You will do great... don't be too nervous about the surgery. Be sure you have someone around for the first few days... those are the toughest and you will really be thankful if someone is there.

If there isn't much pain, then everything is probably going along fine. Everyone's knee is different and will react in different ways. You may have some scar tissue in there that is causing a small problem. It may just break up on it's own. If things are still pretty painful, you should mention that to the doctor and get his opinion on the matter.

No, you don't have to be awake during surgery. I wasn't. You do have the choice though. Even if you do choose to be awake, you won't feel anything and they would give you a few drugs that would make you not care what was going on. For me though, I just wanted to be asleep during surgery and have them wake me up when it was over.

Both methods work just about the same. It is really up to the doctor to decide which one he would suggest that you do. They really do both work great though.
