Patellar Tendon ACL Autograft
A Patellar Tendon ACL autograft is exactly what it sounds like… The new ACL is created by using your patellar tendon (the tendon that attaches your kneecap to your tibia.
Advantages:
- Is considered the “gold standard”. This is the most widely used and popular method out there… as a result, doctors are getting very good at this method.
- This method is considered the strongest method.
Disadvantages:
- Probably the method that causes the most pain (Don’t be scared of a little extra pain though, I had this method and it’s very tolerable.)
- There is a loss of feeling in the skin of your knee about the size of a quarter (more or less). This is caused from the incision which cuts the nerves. (Again, don’t worry about this, it’s nothing you will notice after a while.)
- You probaby won’t want to use this method if kneeling on hard surfaces is part of your job.
